Why I Write?
My mission as a writer is to change the world one reader at a time. I am writing this blog titled: The Mission of Dr. Nicole Publishing House to share my knowledge on children books writing with my readers and answer there questions on children's literature and how reading influence child brain development.
What is My Story?
My journey as a writer began alongside my career as a family medicine doctor. I have always been fascinated by picture books, and the dream of becoming an author has been tucked away in a safe corner of my heart since childhood. After reading the tales and novels of Dr. Jacques Ferron, I realized I wanted to be both an author and a doctor. My education and aspirations have been dedicated to these two fields. My medical career has enabled me to complete a master’s degree in medical pedagogy and later to teach family medicine at the University of Laval, University of Montreal, and University McGill.
What Kind of Books Does Dr. Nicole Publish?
While passionately pursuing my medical career, I also wrote numerous medical articles and books, eventually becoming Editor-in-Chief of the French medical magazine ‘Le Médecin Du Québec’. Additionally, I was featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul of Quebecers with my article "Accomplices to the Last Breath." This piece holds a special place in my heart, as it recounts the last night of my daughter-in-law, who succumbed to lung cancer. I made her a promise to never give up on my dream of publishing books.
Throughout my medical writing endeavors, I built a strong foundation that led me to children's literature. To date, I have published several children's books and received numerous national and international awards for literacy. I express my gratitude to my mother in my book Parents for Sale, as she has always cherished my stories. As a mother myself, I have witnessed my family enjoy, learn, and grow through children's literacy. We have embarked on many adventures together through reading. Literature opens the door to inspire children, parents, and adults, promoting imagination, joy, and valuable lessons that lead to better decision-making. Since children are in a developmental stage, literature plays a crucial role in their positive growth. My mission is to guide them through literacy, offering positive messages that encourage responsible behavior. I believe one of the most valuable lessons for parents is to instill in their children the importance of reading and to encourage them to do so as much as possible.
My books include a bestselling Health Guide and the Felix and Booboo series. The Health Guide explains how to respond to fifty symptoms and minor injuries. The ‘Felix and Booboo’ series comprises eight 24-page picture books that tell the story of a young boy named Felix, who possesses a magical medical briefcase. Booboo the stethoscope serves as the commander of the nine instruments featured in these books, providing a fun way for children to learn about health and medicine.
I also wrote a chapter book titled ‘Parents for Sale’, which imparts valuable lessons about values and responsibility and was my first book published in English. The storyline was inspired by my experiences as a mother of young children. When my children failed to take responsibility for their dog, I jokingly announced that I was putting the dog up for sale. This decision broke their hearts. They pleaded with me to change my mind, and through their improved behavior, we resolved the issue without selling the dog. Parents for Sale conveys this same concept to children, along with four valuable life lessons.
What Are Dr. Nicole's Motivation to Writes Books and Blog?
My true intention as an author is to inspire children to read, unleash their imaginations, and make sound decisions regarding health, safety, and moral responsibility. Writing children's books is my way of giving back and being a positive influence in the community. It allows me to express myself creatively while having fun and serving as a positive role model for both children and parents. These small steps contribute to making the world a better place. I hope my books inspire children to think freely and strive to improve the world around them. I am honored to see this dream come to fruition and will continue to create stories that motivate and inspire. My message to young authors is to dream big, stay focused, and seek expertise in editing and marketing their books.
